How often should I service my AC?

How long does an AC last?
Properly-sized and maintained central AC units last 12-17 years. Mini-splits often last longer (15-20 years) because compressors run at variable speed instead of cycling on/off.
My AC is freezing up. Is it serious?
Usually airflow restriction (dirty filter, blocked vents, low refrigerant) causes coil freeze. Turn it off, replace the filter, and call us — running a frozen AC damages the compressor.
